Pre-Match Preparation Guide: Week 3 – Psyche Up Music
It’s week 3 of the Pre-Match Preparation Guide, and this week is all about psyche-up music. Whether your at home, on the train, in the car, in the changing room, or even walking onto the pitch – there’s no better way to get yourself pumped up for a massive game than by turning the volume all the way up to 11.
In this post, I’ll be listing 8 very different, but equally ball-busting tunes in order to give you an idea of the variety of psyche-up music available to you.

Pre-Match Guide: Week 3 – Psyche Up Music
Track 1.
Chase & Status ft. Tempa T – Hypest Hype
Style: Drum & Bass, Electronic Mayhem
If you want a powerful blend of DNB and Electro, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Chase & Status. Hypest Hype is best suited to being played LOUD, you want people to hear this, whether they like it or not – preferably from some massive speakers.
Best suited for: In the car (windows down) or in the changing room
Track 2.
D12 – Fight Music
Style: Dirty Gangsta Rap
If you’re looking to offend the other team into submission, this could be the trick. Containing the insightful phrase ‘my grandmother sucked my dick and I didn’t come’, this track isn’t for the fainthearted footballer.
Best suited for: On the train or in the changing room
Track 3.
Puff Daddy & Jimmy White – Come With Me
Style: A rap/rock classic
A classic psyche-up track from 1998, Puff Daddy sampled Led Zeppelin’s ‘Kashmir’ and added his own style to create a powerful piece of pre-match psyche-up Gold.
Best suited for: On the train, in the changing room or walking on to the pitch
Track 4.
Chemical Brothers ft. Q-Tip – Galvanise
Style: Loud, Electronic, Ferocious
From a band who have made a career out of producing some of the biggest, loudest music the world has seen, Galvanise is pure psyche-up music.
Best suited for: In the car (windows down) or in the changing room
Track 5.
Steve Sharples – Bolero
Style: A nerve-tingling orchestral masterpiece
From the closing credits of the film Moulin Rouge, this piece of music seems to have been specifically designed to heighten every sense and emotion. This is one tune that’ll get your hairs standing on their end as the speed quicker and quicker. By the end, you’ll either be more psyched up than ever, or an emotional wreck.
Best suited for: In the changing room or walking on to the piece
Track 6.
Collapsed Lung – Eat My Goal
Style: A cheesy British rap/rock classic
The only song in the list to have at least some connection to football, this song gets played and played whenever there’s a big tournament on. To some, it’s likely to be the most annoying song of all time, but to others, it’ll do wonders psyching you up.
Best suited for: In the car or after a goal has been scored
Track 7.
Adam F. ft. Redman – Smash Sumthin
Style: A mix of pure operatic psyche-up with intense hip hop
Adam F sampled the tense ‘O Verona’ from the 1996 Romeo & Juliet Film and added Redman’s vocals to perfect it for an angry footballer.
Best suited for: In the changing room or walking onto the pitch
Track 8.
Rage Against The Machine – Killing in the name
Style: Angry rap metal
This is probably the most famous ‘angry’ song going. Whether its wrist-slitting, government-rejecting, or football match-preparing – it will get you going crazy. If the opposition hear this blasting out in your changing room – they’ll know you mean business.
