Umbro’s New GT (Go Faster Boots) BOOM!

Well we have only just got started with this site but we have already managed to get our grubby hands on a nice new pair of Umbro Go Faster boots. They fit Phil so he has claimed them for the season.

Now, with Umbro’s first foray into the light and quick boot category they have done a lot more than just add as some Go Faster stripes to some Speciali’s. Saying that, the boot’s designers have quite obviously taken inspiration from Umbro’s originals, apparently that part is called an ‘A-Frame’

So the Umbro GT Football Boots are designed for speed. At 236 grams (which is in the same ballpark as the Mercurial Vapor VI)  they are notably the lightest Umbro ever made. They say it is for the fleet footed among us. Saying that, surely lightness would benefit any player? Maybe it would benefit the slower players more than the quick ones? Slow cyclists don’t but heavy bikes. It’s just all a marketing thing, right?

Anyway, back to the boots. They certainly look nice; the design clues from the Speciali give them a classic feel many will prefer over the flashy alternatives. Ours are black but they are also available in white if you want to be kicked harder on Sunday.

The boots also feature a ‘TPU control zone’ which helps with control by increasing surface area (we’re not sure how).

Overall we certainly like the boot. It’s comfy, light and we like the classic look. Looking at the competition, this boot offers a real alternative to the light offerings from other manufacturers and the price is lower too, in the UK they are £85 for the ‘pro’ versions.
